Benefits of WordPress Training
WordPress is simple to use. If you know what to do. But what if you don’t know where to start with your WordPress Website? This is where the benefits of some training really come in. Training can get you up and going with where to start with WordPress as well as develop those WordPress skills you just can’t seem to get the hand of. Sometimes as little as even an hours training is all you’ll need.
Types of WordPress Courses
There are WordPress courses for every need:
Basic/Starter WordPress Training
The most common training needed is basic WordPress tutoring. The learning taught on this type of training sets the foundation of all your WordPress activities. If you don’t know the difference between a Page and Post or the role of a Theme then this starter course is for you.
Intermediate WordPress Training
Creating and amending content on a WordPress blog or Website is both fun and quite simple. The role of shortcodes, widgets and what to know before changing Themes is a bit more advanced. A mid-level WordPress course will teach you the knowledge to manage your Site just a bit better.
Advanced WordPress Training
This level of training is most suitable to those that already have a fair working knowledge of WordPress and will improve WP skills substantially. Enhanced activities such as understanding how WP handles images and video, securing your WordPress Site against hackers and understanding IE, Chrome, Safari, Firefox and other browser local caching and it’s implications is all covered in this course.
WordPress Developer Training
If you want to create Plugins or Themes or understand the more advanced setup of WordPress then this is for you. This training is aimed at very advanced users of WordPress.
Training Delivery Options
WordPress is a hosted application. This means that no local install of WordPress is required (if you didn’t know that then contact me for an hour of one-on-one training – it will be well worth your time
). Because WordPress is hosted this means that the trainer and student don’t need to be in-person i.e. remote training via web-conference software works very well (this is obviously a great advantage in a country such as Australia).
As with most training delivery these days there are numerous options. Below are the two training delivery options I provide (all training is interactive and personalized to students needs).
Class-Based Training
This is self-explanatory. Group sizes are usually up to ten people per class. This type of course is well suited to training such as the ‘WordPress Website in a Day’ course that I offer.
Web-Based Training / Distance Learning
Web-based training (WBT) can either involve instructor-led training or interactive computer based training (CBT). I offer one-on-one personalised training for trainers held via an Online screen-sharing service.
Trainer Skills and Knowledge
Choosing the right trainer is critical. Often, WordPress trainers understand the course content well enough but don’t have the background knowlege to really add additional value to a students learning. For example, teaching someone how to add an image to a Page or Post is simple. But what if the student wants to know how to add an image to the Theme background? Answering this question takes a lot of experience as there are many surrounding factors such as if the Theme is fixed width, if the Theme is responsive (and if so, to what degree) etc. Real world working experience with WordPress is one factor among a few that really separates the goof trainers from the average ones.
Communication too is a critical success factor for good WordPress tutors. Here I’m not only refering to how the trainer meets the students learning types and needs but rather if the trainer can transverse between the business requirements of the students Website and the technical needs. For example, one really needs to know what one wants to achieve from a Website from a ‘business’ perspective.
