Webpage Load Speed as Competitive Advantage

Google has always prided itself on its very fast Search Engine Result Page (SERP) load times. Google continues to show the amount of time each Search has taken on the SERPs. In fact, one of the first items mentioned in Google’s philosophy is that ‘Pages load instantly’.

The Google research people have released some very interesting findings from an experiment where they tested the effects on end-users of slowing SERP load times; basically people searched less as page load times become even fractionally slower.

There is an obvious trade-off between speed and features/design; for example images slow page load speeds however usually make Web pages more visually appealing. At the end of the day there is no getting around that minimising page load times is good Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Speed up your Website and people will interact more with the Site (or Blog)!

P.S. It is interesting that Bing is offering more feature rich SERPs when these additions will have negative implications for page load times!
