xRank – The Best Celebrity Search

Microsoft has (finally) come up with a great website. Microsoft’s Live search was launched in September 2006 and replaced MSN search. Live has not managed to replace either of the two giants of Web search; Google and Yahoo. In beta testing however is xRank, a demonstration that Microsoft and their Web strategy cannot be taken lightly by competitors.

What is xRank

xRank is a ‘sub-search’ engine of Live and is focused on musicians, actors and other celebrities. xRank displays information about these celebrities in various ways as well as providing interesting biographical information, the means of comparing search volumes for celebrities, videos, images and so on.

Celebrities are very big business and Microsoft has done an excellent job in getting celebrity search and information combined within xRank. If Microsoft keeps launching fantastic products such as xRank then the Live product family will soon be challenging the ‘big two’ of search.
