Best WordPress Ecommerce Plugin
The number of WordPress Websites being used for Online shops is growing rapidly. The reason for this is four-fold;
1. WordPress software makes managing Online stores extremely simple.
2. WordPress integrates very well with many APIs due to it’s use of industry standards (e.g. PHP and JavaScript).
3. There are numerous very good WordPress plugins available that make setting up and managing Online stores a breeze.
4. The Total Cost of Ownership of WordPress Online stores as opposed to many other Online Store software is low.
I’ve recently had the pleasure of setting-up and integrating an Online store for a successful organic tea seller. I used the Shopp WordPress Plugin with eWay as the Payment system and Commonwealth Bank. Here, therefore is a review of the Shopp Plugin.
WordPress Shopp Plugin Review
Shopp Plugin is a powerful yet simple way to manager a WordPress Online store
Shopp is an ecommerce WordPress plugin that adds an Online Store to any WordPress Website. The Shopp plugin may be downloaded from http://shopplugin.net/ for $55 and whilst this is often the only cost involved in procuring Shopp, there are numerous free additional plugins available (such as an awesome mass product importer that makes mass adding of products to the store simple). Some Payment and Shipping Plugins may also be required to be procured such as the FedEx or AusPost shipping Plugins or the eWay Payment integration system ($25).
The Plugin is automated to a point in that it’ll create the shopping cart and category Pages for you and they’ll all be styled just like the rest of your Website. All that then needs to be done is configure the settings such as shipping costs and GST as well as Payment API details entered (e.g. the eWay Customer ID) and your Online Shop is ready to have products added. Adding Products is also simple yet has some very clever features. All one does to add a product is create a product Page which has the same look and feel of when adding a standard WordPress Page or Post and enter the various options. Options include setting quantities, setting up custom fields, providing additions or alternatives and so on. Shopp certainly get 5 out of 5 for making a powerful Product Page simple.
I found Shopp extremely powerful and easy to use. I’m confident that Shopp will suit large and small Online retailers alike and will prove very cost effective for any Online seller. The only problem that I encountered was that, when publishing a new product, the product isn’t viewable on the product URL until a few hours after the product page is published (this is a time-zone issue).

Hi Nik,
I always recommend Paypal as a payment gateway because of the ease of integration and the (generally) lower fees. If customers require another specific payment gateway then support of that gateway is often what determines what shopping cart to use.
Hope this helps.
