Which Internet Browser is Best?
This week has seen the release of two new versions of the most popular Internet Browsers; Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 and Mozilla Firefox 4. Besides cosmetic changes there are also functionality changes in both which, especially in the case of Internet Explorer, standardizes the Internet experience for users (and Website designers).
To most people however it really doesn’t matter which Internet Browser they use; they just want the Browser to work and to be easy to use. More than ever, it is becoming increasingly difficult to see differences between the major browsers. I use Firefox 4, Internet Explorer 9, Google Chrome 10, Apple Safari 5 and Opera 11 to test WordPress Websites that I build. The primary browser that I use is Firefox because of the awesome addons available free of charge (and Firefox works very well with WordPress). I have recently started to use Opera more than before; I love its looks and it really seems very quick to load Webpages. In the past I used Chrome because of it’s superior screen ‘real-estate’ however Chrome has lost that competitive advantage as the other Browsers were quick to learn that people don’t want clutter on their screen; they want the Webpage to fill the GUI.
So, which Browser is best? For Web developers Firefox still seems the most capable however Chrome is catching up and Opera is another viable option. For the ‘average’ Web surfer I’d recommend Opera; it’s beautiful to look at and is quick!
