Dell the Service King

Dell, the PC brand, went through a difficult patch a few years back in terms of less than desirable service. Certainly, from my recent experience, those bad old days are over.Dell computer service

My laptop of choice is a Dell XPS m1330. Its light weight, fast, the battery lasts for hours and the screen is great (the downside of the screen is that it’s a little small but for a highly portable laptop it’s not bad). I first encountered Dell PCs and Laptops about ten years ago when working as a ‘techie’. I was impressed back then with Dell and continue to be impressed.

Dell XPS Hard Drive Error

Last week my Dell decided that it wasn’t going to boot into Windows Vista. It ventured past the BIOS bits but as soon as it was meant to start loading Vista an error appeared. I tried to rebuild the Master Boot Record (MBR) etc. but unfortunately to no avail. As the Dell is still under warranty I gave Dell service a call.

The Dell call centre, based in India, was excellent! The guy who answered my call was friendly and very efficient; in no time at all he advised that the hard drive would need replacement and that an engineer would call the next day to confirm a convenient time to swap the hard drive. The next day an engineer called and arranged a swap for the next working day (and the swap occurred on the next business day). The communication right throughout was exemplary.

Great Service from Dell

It is worth noting that I’m not even convinced that the Samsung hard drive was in fact faulty (the new hard drive is a Fujitsu). It could well have been Vista playing up or even some other loaded software at fault. Dell at no time even suggested that it may not be a problematic hard drive and were focused on resolving my reported problem. It may be argued that problems shouldn’t occur in the first place however problems do occur and when they happen it’s great to deal with a company such as Dell.

Well done Dell on your great service!
