In Telstra’s* latest ‘Half Year Analyst Briefing Presentation‘ for the half-year ending December 2008 there is a line in a slide under the titled ‘Environmental Social & Governance’ stating ‘GPS reducing fuel consumption by 6%’ (see image at the end of this post). And yet again Twitter is showing that it is at the forefront of world news. As CNN made it’s name during the Kuwaiti war in 1991, so Twitter showed during the terrorist attacks in Mumbai that it is the new ‘media’ force to be reckoned with.
With the awful Turkish Airlines plane crash near Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam yesterday, Twitter broke the news first. As the Telegraph put it ‘news of the plane crash involving Turkish Airlines flight 1951 near Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam broke first on Twitter, before being picked up by the mainstream media’. As we’ve said before….Mainstream media is being left behind….

Microsoft has (finally) come up with a great website. Microsoft’s Live search was launched in September 2006 and replaced MSN search. Live has not managed to replace either of the two giants of Web search; Google and Yahoo. In beta testing however is xRank, a demonstration that Microsoft and their Web strategy cannot be taken lightly by competitors.

New ShareThis Widget
In the past few days ShareThis has launched a more relevant and user friendly widget (in Beta only for now). The widget is clean, quick and simple to use.
I use mixx quite a bit as a sharing service and it’s frustrating with other sharing services (e.g. AddThis and tell a Friend) that one needs to click multiple tabs or have a new window open to be able to share with Mixx. The new ShareThis widget is Read the rest of this entry »

In the past week ShareThis has released data showing their most popular Sharing Services during January 2009. The data are illustrated below in the chart provided by ShareThis. The results are likely an accurate reflection of the various sharing services popularity on the web as a whole as ShareThis is extremely popular:
- Email is by far most popular sharing service getting 57%.
- Facebook is the second most popular sharing service at 21%
- Digg has dropped significantly in popularity to 2%
